James Gunning

Dr Gunning has 25 years experience in the oil business involving reservoir characterisation, spatial statistics, and the use of remote-sensed data. Best known for authoring seismic inversion tools such as (i) the CSIRO ‘Delivery’ suite of open–source tools for Bayesian stochastic seismic inversion, welltie and wavelet extraction, and CSEM inversion, and (ii) the joint facies/elastic seismic inversion code JIFI. His broader research interests are in spatial statistics, Bayesian methodologies, uncertainty quantification, data integration, discrete and continuous optimization, and inverse problems from seismic and other remote sensed data.
