Matthias Scheiter
Matthias is a final year PhD candidate at the Australian National University where he is co-supervised by Malcolm Sambridge and Andrew Valentine. He started his PhD in 2019 and is working on the application of machine learning methods to speed up geophysical forward and inverse modelling techniques. The main focus has been on using generative models for the construction, analysis and communication of (Bayesian) Monte Carlo ensembles.
Prior to joining ANU, Matthias obtained his BSc and MSc degrees in geophysics at TU Freiberg in Germany. His thesis work was on numerical simulations of glaciers in southern Chile to assess their past, present and future behaviour. Matthias enjoys interdisciplinary research and is intrigued by the development and application of novel data analysis techniques to a broad range of geoscientific fields such as glaciology, geochemistry, and seismology.
