Stephan Thiel
Stephan Thiel is a Principal geophysicist at the Geological Survey of South Australia (GSSA). His experience spans the investigation and application of electromagnetic geophysical methods applied to tectonic evolution of the solid earth, mineral systems science, and geothermal systems. He investigated Archean and Proterozoic tectonics of Australia, obduction processes in Oman, intraplate tectonism, conventional geothermal systems in Ethiopia, and hot dry rock systems in Australia. His current focus is on mapping and understanding mineral systems in Australia, with particular focus on IOCG and Ni-Cu systems. Stephan received his B.Sc (Hons) from the University of Adelaide in 2002, his M.Sc from the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg in 2005 and his Ph.D from the University of Adelaide in 2008. He continued as a Post Doc at the University of Adelaide, before joining the GSSA in 2014.
