Shouvojit Sarker
Shouv is a Software Engineer by training and a functional programming enthusiast. His programming career started by playing around with Perl and vanilla JavaScript, on a catalyst-based web app that facilitated telehealth appointments. On the side Shouv was also involved with data analysis, writing domain-specific Python scripts and models to provide further insight into datasets and (try to) make predictions. This opportunity came along as a Student Vacation Scholar, and later as a casual Software Developer at CSIRO's Data61. He got introduced to functional style Python at this point, getting the complete lesson later in Typescript.
Shouv then moved into the consultancy space, working for a while in a Software Engineering firm. There he had the opportunity to use JavaScript variants, namely ReactJs, and took a deep dive into Typescript. He also got introduced to Software Engineering and Project Management best practices and gained a bit of insight into processes and architectural design. Currently, he is back with CSIRO full-time, working on an exploration and geophysical processing toolkit to help with the interpretation and inversion of geophysical survey data, this time in the Mineral Resources team.
In his spare time Shouv likes to write fiction, and during summer if he is feeling hyperactive, umpire cricket matches.
